43. PULLEY – HARMONIC BALANCER: NOTE – If yours is a solid one piece, it is a crank pulley. If it is 2 pieces with a rubber insert, it is a Harmonic
Balancer. These often separate, slip, break apart and have even cut oil filters, making a real mess. The balancer helps cancel out damaging crankshaf t vibrations and
was used on all but low horsepower engines originally (it is now often used on those too). We suggest replacing any balancer over 10 years old
or any that have alignment marks (thin lines stamped into the inner & other piece) that do not line up.
