Clark Oil Filters
We cut open various brands of filters that we’ve had over the years & found one AC style that seemed to be far superior. This one had full steel shells on both ends of the element
to keep the element rigid, a funnel to center the element & rubber seals.
There are 3 critical areas of a filter:
1. The SEALS to the filter adaptor (so the filter doesn’t leak on your engine!) and correct bolt gasket.
2. The SEAL of the inside end plate of the filter to the element end. The elements have a spring under ths bottom end; this is to relieve pressure should the element become
blocked, so oil can bypass the element to continue oiling your engine! However, when the element isn’t blocked you want your oil going through the element. Most
companies now allow the stamping of the end plate to seal against a “blotter paper” gasket on the end of the element. Some oil could easily leak past, especially since
the elements are not kept centered in the cans. Clark Oil Filters have a funnel shaped metal piece that goes into the element to center it exactly in the center of the
filter. This way the rubber seal on the end plate can make accurate contact with the steel end of the element insuring a positive seal. See photos. (Some suppliers have
even gone to “cardboard” element ends!)
3. The QUALITY of the PAPER ELEMENT. We have paid for a quality element that can be used for OVER 10,000 miles, even though we know most owners change their filter
once a year or every 2,000 – 3,000 miles.

Generation II Clark Oil Filter Improvements:
After 15,000 Clark Oil Filter sales, we made some improvements to our already superior filter in 2013.
Clark Oil Filters: Generation I
If you have one of the filters from before 2013 (blue label), check the top retainer – check that the holes in the top retainer line up & tighten filter in place (tighten a little
more than normal). Once the filter is tightened, they stay in place. Sometimes, the retainer will stay up in the adaptor, so be sure to remove the retainer from the adaptor when
changing the filter.
AC Filter Decal: Make your Clark filter look like an AC filter with these self-adhesive,
red/white and blue decals. Sold set of 3. C13228 3 oz.
Inside Oil Filters
PICTURE #
1 – This is how most filters are made. The stamped raised area is rounded and supposed to seal to the “blotter paper” gasket (#2). It probably isn’t visible but there was
actually a scratch across the seal area of this stamping.
2 – FILTER END with “blotter paper” gasket. Probably not visible in the photo but the stamping had made a dark mark on the “blotter paper”. Because the element was not
centered in the can of this filter, the mark left by the stamping is off-centered on the paper gasket, nearly missing one side. It was within 1/64” of not hitting it at all at “C”.
3 – Clark Filter PLATE END looks like this. A wide rubber SEAL (“A”) to SEAL against the steel end of the element. Notice the “FUNNEL” lip (“B”) near the center. This just
fits into the metal end of the element end to keep it centered in the can.
4 – Clark Filter ELEMENT END: The rubber can easily SEAL against this all steel end & the funnel just fits in the hole.
