NUTS & BOLTS

IMPORTANT FACTS

Nuts and bolts of any importance should NEVER BE REUSED! Not only are they rusty, but the bolt shank and threads can stretch and fatigue. You should consider all bolts

and nuts under GRADE 5 as totally unacceptable for any mechanical stress areas. GRADES 5 & 8 are usually used by auto manufacturers. A high quality bolt goes thru

many hardening and tempering steps and they cost more. Very few stores stock much above GRADE 2 (the head has no markings on it).

GRADE 5: "Gr 5" – is nearly twice as strong as GRADE 2.

GRADE 8: "Gr 8" – (Aircraft Quality} – is approximately 3 times stronger than GRADE 2.

STAINLESS STEEL: is about equal to GRADE 5.

We offer mainly GRADE 8 on critical systems. Be sure to use higher quality washers and lock washers we supply. Otherwise a GRADE 8 bolt is useless.

Washers?? Yes! A quality bolt has a slight (but important) ﬂange under the head and good washers have a beveled side to the hole to cradle that ﬂange!

Besides, soft washers compress and your bolt loosens. Our Kits or Sets come with alloy washers and lock washers as needed. PLUS . . . these high quality bolts have good

resistance to corrosion and are less apt to break when removed 5 years from now.
