65-69 Shift Lever Seals + Shims

GEARSHIFT CONTROL ASSEMBLY

Whenever excessive looseness of the ﬂoor shift tower is

experienced, or at any time a shift mechanism is disassembled for

service, the following information may be used to select the proper

shim pack for the shift tower and ﬂoor pan.

Shim Stack Selection

Remove the shift housing trim cover on Corsa models by removing

the two cross-recess head screws and the shift lever knob. Provide

access to the shift tower by disengaging the carpet and moving It

out of the way.

1. Remove the front underbody tunnel cover.

2. Remove four nuts from the underside of the ﬂoor shift unit.

3. Lift the entire shift lever assembly upward to dis engage it

from the shifter tube pocket and ﬂoor pan.

NOTE: A hard plastic seal with shouldered stud holes (upper

seal) should be on top of the ﬂoor pan, and a ﬂat hard

plastic lower seal should be between the shifter tube bracket

and the underside of the ﬂoor pan. Retain these seals and

any stamped steel shim plates for possible reinstallation.

4. Obtain a micrometer measurement of the ﬂoor pan

thickness at all four sides of the opening. Compare the

average measurement to the "Dimension A" column In the

following chart to determine what lower seal is to be used

and what quantity of steel shim plates, if any, are required.

After selecting the proper lower seal and shim stock, coat all surfaces of the seals and shims with

white grease. Assemble shims (if any) over the shoulders of the upper seal and install this pack on

the upper surface of the ﬂoor pan. Insert the correct lower seal between the shifter tube bracket

and under surface of the ﬂoor pan. The entire shift assembly to slide on the ﬂoor pan in reaction to

powertrain movement. Reinstall all other previously removed components.

1965-69 SHIFTER BASE PARTS

#1 TOP SEAL: With shouldered stud holes. C537D 4 oz.

Repro out of DELRIN material – Appear and function like the original.

#2 SHIM: Stack as necessary per chart. C5717 2 oz.

#3 Lower Seal (Plastic): Goes below ﬂoor – see chart.

Green: Not available; sub a black or white one.

Note: The Corsa originally came with a quicker shift. This can be used with it but the shift becomes VERY short and installation and

adjustment is VERY critical.
