11.  Heat Shield – Muffler: GM intended the heat shield to prevent muffler heat from affecting the valve cover gaskets and cover. Not essential but highly sug-
gested. Bolt to head and muffler hanger (front end of left side 140 attaches to muffler via a strap). These are excellent reproductions missing only the reinforcing stamp-
ing marks. C595R will not fit with Clark valve covers.

Straps: Because of so many dif ferent mufflers and hangers in  
use we are now supplying a muffler strap that appears original  
except that at the “hook” end the strap is trimmed smaller and supplied flat. Just cut to the length  
you need and form a hook. Stainless are made just like the steel but last 8–10 times longer.
