INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT KITS
All of the following items in this section are included in the complete & basic A/C kits on page 317, but can be ordered
separately if you are adding to an existing system.
2 Carb Sanden Compressor Kit, 61-69 – C11848 25 lbs.
4 Carb Sanden Compressor Kit, 61-69 – C11941 25 lbs.
These kits include everything you need to add a modern Sanden compressor to your 2-carb & 4-carb engine, and at an affordable price.
You get: Correct Mounting Bracket with both Early and Late model mounting hardware, New Sanden SD7 Compressor, and our custom R-134 Fittings.
Condenser Starter Kit, Trunk Mount – C11783 15 lbs.
If you are planning to add a condenser to the trunk of your Corvair, this kit will get you started on the right path. The
kit includes two 9" electric puller fans and a perfectly sized, ultra-thin, modern R-134 condenser with o-ring style
connections for this application. A general airflow and layout diagram is included, but you are on your own to fabricate
and modify your trunk. You may want to consider our steel trunk bottom to give a "false bottom" effect over your
condenser (see page 189 for 61-64 C4778A & page 196 for 65-69 C3231A.) Requires cutting, welding, and basic
metal fabrication skills. Note: Approximately doubles the amount of time for full installation. All Turbo owners must use
the trunk mounted condenser.
WHY REPLACE THE DRIER?
The function of the drier is to remove moisture from your air conditioning system. Just a few drops of moisture can cause the system to freeze and stop
working. The desiccant (a dehydrating agent) in the drier will lose its ability to absorb moisture over time. Additionally, the desiccant can only absorb a
finite amount of moisture. If this is exceeded, the desiccant "bag" can rupture necessitating complete system disassembly for cleaning. Replace yours
when you are working on your system. You MUST replace the drier if the system is left open for more than a few minutes.
Drier Kit, non-stock – C11849 3 lbs.
If stock is not what you are looking for, this drier is for you – fits 61-69 (an excellent alternative for the 61-64 stock drier.) This compact design includes
three rubber mounts, and will attach to many "hidden" places on your car. Good for either R-12 or R-134 refrigerant. Includes a sight glass for R-12 use,
o-ring style ports, as well as the two modern o-ring fittings that can be used with the factory hoses, and hardware. Note: If your A/C system has been
opened for more than a few minutes, you have to replace your existing drier with a new one before recharging!
Evaporator/Under Dash Vent Kit, 61-64 Cars – C11850 70 lbs. dimensional
You don't have to settle for a one-size-fits-all aftermarket evaporator anymore. Our completely new
evaporator/vent assembly is smaller, lighter, quieter, moves more CFM, and is specifically engineered
for our Corvairs. It can be installed in any car in a few hours (not days), and is circuited specifically
for R-134. This kit can be used as a replacement unit for your GM 61-64 evaporator, or installed
into a car that never had AC. This recirculating evaporator kit mounts neatly behind the glove box,
and moves significantly more air than the stock version. The independent, remote 3-vent design not
only blows cold air in the center (like stock), but also from either side of the dash for strong, even air
directing. The unit is easily controlled using an integrated switch design concealed on the back of the
GM heater control box already in your car to preserve that factory look. Plug and play wiring harness,
relays, and thermal switch are preset so installing is a snap. Kit includes evaporator/blower unit,
expansion valve, mounting brackets, control switch & bracket, wiring harness, 2.5" air vent hose, 3
under dash vents, drain hose, instructions, and all hardware needed to complete the job.
Condenser Kit, 61-64 Engine Lid Mount – C11781 9 lbs.
This condenser unit was engineered specifically for early model Corvairs. A high-temp, vacuum-formed
plastic shroud hugs the contours of the underside of the engine deck lid and flips up out of the way
when you need access to your engine compartment. This very lightweight unit utilizes an ultra-thin,
modern R-134 condenser with o-ring fittings, and mounts in minutes. Includes mounting hardware, hi/
low safety switch, and instructions. Requires non-64 style air cleaners (not included) – To Order Air
cleaners separately see C11611 & C11612 on page 321. Can be used with R-12 as well.
Evaporator/Under Dash Vent Kit, 65-69 Cars – C11851 70 lbs. dimensional
The late model version is the same as the early (C11850), but adds a custom hard line extension running from the
evaporator into the trunk instead of a very short hose, making this a solid connecting point for your evaporator and
hoses. You also get our new 65-69 ABS plastic molded glove box. Unlike a stock 65-67 evaporator, this unit fits
completely inside the passenger compartment and is recirculating only. Add "D" to this kit and get our In-Dash Vent
Kit Upgrade (C11856) – See page 321 for info. **Recommend In-Dash Vent Upgrade for 67-69 cars.
Condenser Kit, 66-67 R-134 Repro – C11782 20 lbs.
A brand new 66-67 style condenser that is re-circuited specifically for affordable R-134, and will fit
any non-turbo late model in minutes. Not only can this unit replace your old, GM R-12 unit, it can
improve the performance of your R-134 system too. Includes modern o-ring fittings that can be
used with the factory hoses, mounting hardware, required seals, hi/low safety switch, instructions, and is finished in powder-coated black. Don't bother
spending hours restoring your old, bent-up GM condenser just to find it may leak...order our new R-134 repro while we have them!
Drier Kit, 65-67 Close Stock Replacement – C11857 3 lbs.
Replaces your stock late model drier. This drier will fit your 65-67 stock drier bracket and looks great. Includes a sight glass for R-12 use, o-ring style
ports, as well as the two modern o-ring fittings for use with the factory hoses. Good for either R-12 or R-134 refrigerant. *Notes: 1) This drier is close
to stock dimensions, but the outside diameter is a little smaller. It can easily be shimmed to fit your stock bracket. 2) If your A/C system has been
opened for more than a few minutes, you have to replace your existing drier with a new one before recharging!
