1965-69 MOLDED HOOD AND FENDER INSULATION

We ﬁnally found a company that made molded ﬁberglass hood insulations during

the 60's. They explained that the "dots" were due to the perforated steel tooling

used for the molds. The hot air was forced through the holes to cure the raw

ﬁberglass. They said most car companies now want insulation to appear smooth,

but they could still make the old style tooling for us. The original molded hood &

fender insulations had the ﬁbers showing & were a variegated color from light gray

to dark charcoal. Most of us think of them as being darker, but I think that is due

to aging, oil & dirt. As with the originals, there may be minor creases or "imper-

fect" areas as its very difﬁcult to work with raw ﬁberglass (similar to sticky cotton

candy). Like the originals, ours have some areas that are "perforated" (engine light

hole, side marker lights) that you can ﬁnish cutting out if needed.

HOOD INSULATION UPDATE – The ﬁrst run the hood light "cut out" was slightly off.

Current production has the correct location.

STIFFER – The Repro Insulation is a little stiffer. Have someone help with installation of the fender insulation.

This grayish ﬁberglass material looks very much like the original & makes a good ﬁtting substitute. These are NOT EXACT reproductions.

There are no creases, no indentations & it is not "formed". They are die cut so the ﬁt is nice and would look stock to anyone that "didn't know".
